Records 54 percent increase in exports during the first quarter
Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (DAFZA) achieved positive financial and operational results in the first half of 2020.
Throughout the first quarter of the year, DAFZA recorded a 54 percent increase in general exports. During this period, China accounted for the highest percentage of DAFZA’s trade, with 21 percent at a value of AED 7.7bn, followed by India with 16.6 percent at AED 6.1bn. Switzerland accounted for 14 percent, with a value of AED 5.1bn.
The free zone also witnessed a large trade surplus with goods from various industries amounting to AED 3.1bn.
The free zone witnessed a 19% increase in the number of registered companies compared to 2019, which confirms DAFZA’s reputation as a haven for companies looking for a safe environment.
The number of small and medium-sized companies recorded a remarkable growth of about 23% compared to the results of last year.
“In the first half of this year, we have witnessed unprecedented times, which led to many economic challenges and restrictions. DAFZA has demonstrated its success in overcoming these challenges, as shown through various indicators and economic results,” affirmed HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, DAFZA.
“During the first half of the year, DAFZA achieved 92 percent of its sales targets and has played a critical role in stimulating economic activity in the country,” noted Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Director General, DAFZA.
