Plant to produce high-performance polymers for new technologies in future markets
Evonik, a leading producer of specialty chemicals, recently reported that construction work on its new ‘Polyamide 12’ (PA 12) Complex at Marl Chemical Park in Germany is virtually complete and will be operational this year.
The company has invested around 0.5bn Euro in this future-oriented project and is the largest investment in the company’s history in Germany.
This complex stands for the future viability of our state. Investing in this advanced complex creates new, highly skilled jobs,” affirmed Armin Laschet, Minister President, Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Versatile applications
The high-performance polymer polyamide 12 is used in attractive growth markets such as 3D printing, medical technology, automotive engineering, and as substitute for steel. Evonik’s sites in Asia also offered attractive conditions for the construction of the world’s most modern PA 12 complex, a press communiqué said.
“Three years ago, we decided to produce this leading high-tech German product for the world market here in the Ruhr region. That creates growth, value, and jobs,” asserted Christian Kullmann, Chairman, Evonik’s Executive Board
Construction of the new complex has been virtually completed in just under two years and creates 120 new highly skilled jobs.
“If we want to continue the successful model that has made German industry strong and driven its global success, we need to do it together,” observed Bernd Tönjes, Chairman, Evonik’s Supervisory Board.
Evonik has been developing customized high-performance polymers for demanding applications for more than 50 years, the press statement concluded.
