The launch reflects the company’s commitment to accomplishing the Kingdom’s goal of zero emission
Saudi Arabia’s giant AlMajdouie Logistics has announced that it is the first national logistics business entity to obtain an operational licence for hydrogen trucks from the Kingdom’s Transport Regulator, The Saudi Transport General Authority (TGA).
The launch of the first-ever hydrogen truck has been inaugurated on an experimental basis in a step that reflects TGA and Al Majdouie’s commitment to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 toward providing an environment free of carbon emissions.
The authority stated that the truck is distinguished by the fact of having zero carbon emissions, which contribute to achieving the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics, in addition to Saudi Arabia’s initiatives for sustainable development.
Long distances
The truck is designed and equipped to transport goods in accordance with the safety conditions, TGA said, noting that it covers long distances exceeding 400 km. Another characteristic of the truck is that it is supplied with hydrogen as fuel with a capacity of up to 35 kg and a gas pressure of up to 350 bar.
This comes within a strategic partnership between Almajdouie Logistics and Al Jubail, Eastern Province-headquartered Air Products Qudra Company to provide integration solutions for hydrogen trucks in terms of operation and hydrogen fueling.
This comes with the aim of building an ecosystem for hydrogen transportation in the Kingdom to offer integrated solutions to interested parties and enhance hydrogen transportation by trucks within Saudi Arabia.
Ambitious study
TGA stated that the agreement includes design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of hydrogen-related infrastructure, in addition to the hydrogen refuelling stations available in different locations in Saudi Arabia. This aims at building an ambitious feasibility study in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and the Saudi Green Initiative.
Almajdouie Company has obtained the first operational card for the hydrogen trucks in Saudi Arabia, which was issued from the Naql e-platform. The goal of issuing the operational card includes providing all information related to the trucks, ensuring commitment to decarbonization, and offering all the technical requirements for the trucks.
It also includes rising efficiency and quality of services in the logistics sector, preserving public safety, enhancing traffic safety, in addition to achieving the goals of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics.
The inauguration comes as an extension of TGA’s adoption of a number of a number of modern and innovative technologies in the transportation system.
Operating Licence
TGA has handed over the first operating licence for the hydrogen train to Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR), which is characterized by being free of carbon emissions, to support the sustainability in the transportation sector with services that contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
The Authority indicated that this comes within its commitment to creating transportation means that are friendly to humans and the environment. This will reflect in improving the quality of life and achieving the goals of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics, which is to reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2030.
The key features of our hydrogen truck include Zero Carbon Emissions; Safety-focused design; Hydrogen-powered (35 kg capacity, 350 bar gas pressure) and ability to cover long distances exceeding 400 kms.
Sustainable future
As part of its vision for a sustainable future, AlMajdouie Logistics is collaborating with Air Products Qudra Company to enhance the hydrogen transportation sector. The company’s focus includes infrastructure development and the establishment of refueling stations across the Kingdom.
Al Majdouie has also signed an MoU with Ma’aden, the Saudi state-owned mining company headquartered in Riyadh, during the recently concluded Arabal (Arab International Aluminium) Conference and Exhibition 2023, held in November in Riyadh) as a strategic collaboration.
This is in line with the company’s strategy to utilize cutting-edge hydrogen trucks for its on-site operations, thereby aligning itself with Saudi Vision 2030 and sustainable best practices.
