Top manufacturer ZPMC Cranes to be utilised at the Port’s expansion project
DP World Sokhna has made progress on its major expansion project through Basin 2 at the Egyptian Port, with the purchase of four new latest, advanced quay cranes manufactured by global crane leader Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company (ZPMC).

As one of the largest direct investments into the Egyptian economy this year (US$ 520mn), Basin 2 will be operational by the second quarter of 2020 and nearly double capacity at the Port to 1.75 million TEUs annually.
The expansion cements DP World Sokhna’s position as a major gateway for Egypt’s trade, and the only port in the country capable of handling the largest container ships in the world.
Designed to cater to the mega container-ships, the cranes are expected to visibly enhance operation capability.
Other upcoming purchases to support the development of Basin 2 include two rail mounting gantry cranes, eight rubber tyre gantry cranes, in addition to land-based equipment such as internal terminal vehicles and terminal trailers.
