The award is the highest honour for overseas Indians
Ramesh S. Ramakrishnan, Chairman, Transworld Group, is the most recent recipient of the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA).
The award, conferred by the President of India, is the highest honour for overseas Indians. It recognizes exemplary contributions by members of the Indian diaspora in their respective fields and their efforts in strengthening ties between India and the global community.
Ramakrishnan, currently domiciled in the UAE, received the award at a celebratory event during the recent three-day 18th Pravasi (Overseas) Bharatiya Divas Convention held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, during the second week of January 2025.
Awardees were vetted and chosen by a distinguished panel of luminaries, including India’s Vice President and the External Affairs Minister, among others. Ramakrishnan was recognized for his exceptional leadership over four decades and his contribution to the global shipping and logistics solutions industry.
Strengthening bonds
“It is a tribute to the shared efforts of my family, the Transworld team, and all those who have supported our journey. As a proud member of the Indian diaspora, I remain committed to contributing to India’s growth and fostering opportunities that strengthen the bond between our homeland and the global community,” affirmed Ramakrishnan upon receiving the award
Ramakrishnan took over the helm of Transworld Group from his late father (and founder) R. Sivaswamy, in 1989. In the decades since, Ramakrishnan has exponentially grown and globally expanded the reach of the integrated shipping and logistics conglomerate.
His unwavering commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence has positioned the Group as a transformative force in the logistics and shipping sector. With a workforce of over 1,000, the company’s interests include warehousing, food processing, and, most recently, private aviation, a press communique concluded.
