Move to accelerate EV charging infrastructure in Sharjah
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has signed a landmark agreement with ION, the sustainable mobility joint venture between BEEAH and Crescent Enterprises, to deploy a large network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers across the emirate.
In collaboration with SRTA, ION will be deploying, operating and maintaining a network of over 100 fast EV chargers as Sharjah’s first appointed Charge Point Operator, positioning the venture at the forefront of the UAE’s EV infrastructure development.
The strategic agreement was signed at the BEEAH Headquarters by HE Eng. Yousif Khamis Mohammed Al Othmani, Chairman, Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, and Khaled Al Huraimel, Chairman, ION and Group CEO and Vice Chairman, BEEAH, in the presence of high-level officials and senior executives from SRTA, ION, BEEAH, and Crescent Enterprises.
Promoting sustainability
“SRTA remains committed to advancing electric mobility in Sharjah, keeping pace with international efforts in promoting sustainability, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing the green mobility ecosystem, including electric buses and taxis,” asserted Al Othmani.
The network of over 100 fast EV chargers will be supported by ION’s integrated mobile application, enabling EV users to navigate to a nearby charger using the map, plug in, track the charging session in real time, and make payments seamlessly.
End-to-end platform
“Through ION’s end-to-end platform, we will offer a more connected charging experience for EV users, while supporting charger owners and operators with the tools they need to help grow and manage a reliable, efficient green mobility network,” stated Al Huraimel.
“Our partnership reflects our broader investment approach at Crescent Enterprises – backing scalable platforms in the UAE and globally that integrate infrastructure, technology, and operational capability to deliver long-term value at scale,” added Tushar Singhvi, ION Board Member and Deputy CEO, Crescent Enterprises.
