Gautam Rice, wholesalers and the largest supplier of high-quality rice in the UAE, with operations in the GCC and in India, has highlighted its significant contributions to hunger over the past several years as part of its ongoing commitment to community support and in alignment with the World Food Day (16 October) theme.
As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities, the company’s efforts have directly supported communities in both the UAE and India, ensuring food and essential supplies reach those in need during some of the most challenging times in recent history.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN, organiser of World Food Day, reports that the world’s farmers produce enough food to feed more than the global population, yet hunger persists.
Serving the vulnerable
Around 733mn people are facing hunger in the world due to repeated weather shocks, conflicts, economic downturns, inequality and the pandemic. This impacts the poor and vulnerable most severely, many of whom are agricultural households, reflecting widening inequalities across and within countries.
“Our work reflects the goals of World Food Day by fighting hunger and supporting some of the most vulnerable communities. With a total contribution of over AED 1.5mn (US$ 409,000), we remain dedicated to providing nourishment and essential goods to those in need,” stressed Gautam Aggarwal, Managing Director, Gautam Rice.
Gautam Rice’s has made key contributions over the years since 2029 distributing rice, food grains and sugar to non-profit organisations in vulnerable communities in India.
