Facility expected to produce 1.2mn MT of paraxylene and 500,000MT of benzene annually
Honeywell Technologies has announced that it has been selected by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) to provide licensing and engineering services for a new aromatics complex in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The project will be developed at GPIC’s existing industrial complex in Sitra and will support the production of key petrochemical building blocks used across a broad range of consumer and industrial applications.
The facility is expected to produce approximately 1.2mn MT of paraxylene and 500,000MT UOP’s Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming and LDPX Aromatics Complex.
Essential feedstocks
These products serve as essential feedstocks for plastics, polyester fibers and packaging materials, helping meet growing global demand across consumer and industrial markets.
“By collaborating with Honeywell Technologies UOP on this new aromatic complex, we are investing in world-class technologies that will strengthen our production capabilities, support long-term industrial growth and enable us to meet evolving market demand for essential petrochemical products,” explained Yasser A. Rahim Alabbasi, Chief Executive Officer, GPIC.
“This project will help enable the efficient production of high-value petrochemical products while strengthening the Kingdom of Bahrain’s industrial base,” added Mohamed Sami, General Manager, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Process Technology, Honeywell Technologies.
